New Direction

Approximately 10 years ago we bought our first caravan and the blog was born.

The road the blog was destined to follow, was our new found love, caravanning. The caravan took us on endless trips within the UK and Europe. Looking back I think we’ve been at our happiest in Europe in the caravan. We were lucky enough to be able to celebrate our 50th birthdays touring Europe without a plan. We’ve cycled our way around several European countries care of our trusty tandem and the caravan.

The caravan even lead us down a new road, career wise, assistant wardens for the Caravan and Motorhome Club for 5 years. We worked on 4 lovely sites with lots of great people.

Just over 2 years ago, I lost my lovely Dad and we made the decision that life is too short to spend our summers being wound up by the great British public. Whilst the majority of our guests were lovely, we always had some challenging folk tucked away somewhere on site.

Two years ago this month we took the huge decision to tow the caravan home from work for one final time, we took early retirement.

Retirement, has been the making of us. It’s put us back into the heart of our family. After all, family is everything, work is a means to an end. Not sure how we managed to fit full time work into our lives. Whilst Steve has given up completely, I am now invigilating in a local high school. Which suits me down to the ground, exam time only and choose the days you are able to work.

Retirement has seen a change in the way we holiday too. The caravan has had a couple of European trips and a few UK breaks, we’ve also had cottage holidays and a good few foreign trips to the sun.

Bearing this in mind, I feel I’ve let the blog slide a bit as our holidays don’t revolve around the caravan any more. Going forward I’m going to start documenting all our trips regardless of how we travelled or where we stayed. The blog was always supposed to document our lives as we pursued our dream, to travel. Retirement has opened up new avenues on how we will continue to follow that dream.

Hoping that you will continue to follow our dream with us.

  1. I love following your adventures, not mater where it takes you or how you get there…..even now, when I see an interesting door, I think of you. I also have fond memories of meeting you in the pub on that very very wet day in July 2020 when the campsites opened again after Covid. Good luck with all you do, happy travels and see you on a site soon x x x

  5. Woo HOOOOOO! Congratulations on your retirement. I am so chuffed for you both. We retired almost 10 years ago to travel for three years in our caravan, and haven’t quite stopped… Like you, we have left behind caravan days, but remained on wheels – six really big ones with knobbly tyres attached to our army truck, The Beast!

Travel is always interesting, whether on wheels or otherwise.

I shall look forward to reading about your new chapter adventures!

  6. Hello you two 😀 Well like you, my blog was started to document our lives once we had sold up and started Motorhome life, that was over 11 year’s ago and I am still writing it, although it has turned into more of a travel and lifestyle blog now that we no longer own a Motorhome. We are enjoying retirement proper, we still travel although mini-adventures these days. Just enjoy the life that you want to live it 👍

    1. Thanks Eric/Shaz, caravanning has had the passion sucked out of it for us by a certain establishment. It meant the inevitable demise of the blog and I didn’t want that, so like yours, ours will grow in a different direction. X
